Wynton Marsalis Orchestra visits Brisbane

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wynton Marsalis is in Brisbane with the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra. We just had to go and see them. Wynton, in my books is one of the greatest jazz trumpet players alive.
Led by nine-time Grammy winner, Wynton Marsalis, this superlative big band is made up of 15 of the finest soloists, big band players and arrangers in jazz music today. Their unique take on jazz classics fills halls right across the world. The orchestra is made up of 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 5 saxophones/clarinets, double base, piano and Wynton's younger brother Jason Marsalis on percussion.
The first jazz artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer prize in music, trumpet legend Wynton Marsalis has recorded more then 70 albums and is the first and only artist to win both classical and jazz Grammy Awards in the same year - a feat he achieved two years in a row.
There are two concerts in Brisbane. On Monday, Jazz Ambassadors (the show we went to see) and on Wednesday, Monk, Miles and More
The concert on Monday was mainly music of Jazz royalty, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman and Dave Brubeck. Unfortunately Glenn Miller was not on the program, but hey, jazz is jazz.
Wynton Marsalis
It was truly a spectacular concert event and well worth the trip to the Concert Hall.
